Audi Quattro is a road and rally car that was produced by the German automobile manufacturer Audi, part of the Volkswagen Group. It was first shown at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show on 3 March. Production continued through 1991. Audi Quattro shared many parts and platform with the Coupé version of the Audi 80 (B2). The quattro was internally designated Typ 85, a production code it shared with the quattro versions of the Audi Coupé. Its characteristic flared wheelarches were styled by Martin Smith. Quattro was powered by a 2.1-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine that produced 200 horsepower. The engine was paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The Quattro was available in both two-door and four-door body styles. The Quattro was a revolutionary car for its time. It was the first mass-produced car to feature permanent all-wheel drive. This gave the Quattro excellent traction in all weather conditions, making it a formidable competitor in rallying. Quattro was a huge success for Audi. It won the World Rally Championship in 1982, 1983, and 1984. The Quattro also helped to popularize the use of all-wheel drive in passenger cars.
