Bugatti Type 18, also known as the Bugatti Roland Garros or Bugatti Black Bess, is an automobile produced from 1912 through 1914. It was the first car produced by Ettore Bugatti, and it is considered to be one of the most important cars in the history of the automobile. Type 18 was powered by a 5.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that produced 100 horsepower. It was mated to a three-speed manual transmission. The Type 18 had a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph). The Type 18 was a success for Bugatti, and it helped to establish the company as a manufacturer of high-performance automobiles. The Type 18 is also known for its association with the British racing driver Ivy Cummings, who named her car “Black Bess” after the mare of highwayman Dick Turpin. Bugatti Type 18 is a rare car, with only a few surviving examples. It is considered to be a valuable collector’s car, and it has been featured in a number of museums and exhibitions.
