Chevrolet Chevette is a front-engine, rear-drive subcompact manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet for model years 1976–1987 as a three-door or five-door hatchback. Introduced in North America in September 1975, the Chevette superseded the Vega as Chevrolet’s entry-level subcompact, and sold 2.8 million units over 12 years. The Chevette was the best-selling small car in the U.S. for model years 1979 and 1980. Chevette was powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 70 horsepower and 72 pound-feet of torque. The engine was mated to a four-speed manual transmission or a three-speed automatic transmission. The Chevette could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 13 seconds and had a top speed of 90 mph. Chevette was a basic car with a simple interior. It featured bench seats, a vinyl floor covering, and a basic AM radio. The Chevette was also available with a variety of options, including air conditioning, power windows, and a sunroof. The Chevette was a popular car for young people and budget-minded buyers. It was also a popular choice for fleet vehicles. The Chevette was discontinued after the 1987 model year.
