Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) that was produced by General Motors from 2011 to 2015. It is the first production car to be powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. Volt has a range of 35 miles (56 km) on electric power alone, and can travel up to 380 miles (610 km) on a full tank of gas. The Volt can be plugged in to a standard household outlet to recharge the battery, or it can be charged using a public charging station.
The Volt is powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The engine generates 84 horsepower, and the electric motor generates 111 horsepower. The combined output of the engine and motor is 149 horsepower.
Volt has a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h) and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds. Volt was named the 2011 North American Car of the Year and the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year. It was also named the 2011 Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal.
