Ford F-150 Lightning was a high-performance pickup truck that was produced by Ford from 1999 to 2004. It was the first factory-built truck to be equipped with a supercharged engine, and it quickly became a popular choice for performance enthusiasts. Lightning was based on the Ford F-150 SuperCab, but it featured a number of unique styling and performance features. The most notable feature was the Eaton M90 supercharger, which was mounted on top of the 5.4-liter V8 engine. The supercharger added 100 horsepower and 100 pound-feet of torque, bringing the Lightning’s total output to 360 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. Other performance upgrades included a lowered suspension, upgraded brakes, and 18-inch wheels. The Lightning could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and had a top speed of 148 mph. Lightning was also available with a variety of luxury features, including leather upholstery, a sunroof, and a navigation system. The Lightning was a success for Ford, with over 28,000 units sold over its five-year production run. It helped to establish Ford as a leader in the performance truck market, and it paved the way for the introduction of the Raptor in 2010.
