McLaren MCL33 is a Formula One racing car designed and constructed by McLaren to compete in the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship. The MCL33 was driven by Belgian driver Stoffel Vandoorne and two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso.
The MCL33 was powered by a Renault Sport Energy F1-2018 engine, which was a rebadged version of the TAG Heuer-branded Renault engine used by the Red Bull Racing team in 2017. The MCL33 was also the first McLaren car to use a customer Renault engine since the Peugeot-powered McLaren MP4/9 in 1994. MCL33 was a significant improvement over its predecessor, the McLaren MCL32. The MCL33 was more aerodynamically efficient and had a more powerful engine. The MCL33 also had a more stable rear end, which made it easier to drive.
The MCL33 finished the 2018 season in sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship, with 62 points. Vandoorne scored 12 points, while Alonso scored 50 points. Alonso’s best finish of the season was fifth place at the Spanish Grand Prix.
McLaren MCL33 was a successful car for McLaren. It was the team’s first car to finish in the top six in the Constructors’ Championship since 2012. The MCL33 also helped McLaren to attract new sponsors, such as Dell and Coca-Cola.
