Mr. Beep is a fictional car character created by British Petroleum (BP) Canada in 1957. He is a bright yellow, wide-eyed car with a friendly face. Mr. Beep was originally used in print, billboard, television, and point-of-sale advertising for BP gasoline. In 1958, BP Canada built a real-life version of Mr. Beep. The car was based on a Ford Zephyr chassis and had a fiberglass body. Mr. Beep could drive under its own power, although it was not very fast. Mr. Beep toured Canada from 1959 to 1964. He visited schools, fairs, and other events. Mr. Beep was a popular attraction, and he helped to promote BP gasoline. Mr. Beep has been featured in a number of television shows and movies. He has also appeared in children’s books and other merchandise. Mr. Beep is a well-known and beloved character in Canada.
