Pontiac Bonneville Station Wagon Ambulance Kennedy is a rare and historic vehicle that was used to transport President John F. Kennedy’s body after his assassination in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. The ambulance was built by the Hess & Eisenhardt Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, and was based on a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville station wagon. It was equipped with a variety of features to make it suitable for transporting the president, including a raised roof, a rear door that opened into a full-height compartment, and a special stretcher that could be loaded and unloaded from either side of the vehicle. The ambulance was used to transport President Kennedy’s body from Parkland Memorial Hospital to Love Field, where it was loaded onto Air Force One for the flight back to Washington, D.C. It was also used to transport the bodies of Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby, who were both assassinated in the days following President Kennedy’s death. Pontiac ambulance is now on display at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. It is a reminder of one of the most tragic events in American history, and it serves as a tribute to President Kennedy and the sacrifices he made for his country.
