The Porsche 906 Carrera 6 is a sports racing car that was developed and built by Porsche in 1965. It was designed to compete in the FIA’s 2.0-liter Prototype and GT categories, and it was successful in both, winning the 2.0-liter Prototype championship in 1966. The 906 was powered by a 2.0-liter flat-six engine that produced 210 horsepower. The engine was mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The 906 could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and had a top speed of 155 mph. 906 was a lightweight car, weighing just 1,500 pounds. It had a fiberglass body and a tubular steel chassis. The 906 was also aerodynamically efficient, with a drag coefficient of just 0.32. The 906 was a successful racing car. It won numerous races in 1966, including the Targa Florio, the Nürburgring 1000 km, and the 24 Hours of Spa. The 906 also finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 906 was a significant car for Porsche. It was the first car to be developed by Ferdinand Piëch, who would later become the chairman of the Volkswagen Group. The 906 was also the first car to use Porsche’s signature “911” design language. 906 is a rare and valuable car. Only 52 examples were built, and they are now highly sought-after by collectors.
