Scammell Pioneer was a British 6×4 tractor unit used in World War II as an artillery tractor, recovery vehicle and tank transporter. The Scammell Pioneer was developed in the early 1920s by Scammell Lorries, a British manufacturer of heavy vehicles. The Pioneer was designed to meet the requirements of the British Army for a powerful and reliable artillery tractor. The first prototype of the Pioneer was built in 1927 and the vehicle entered production in 1928. Pioneer was powered by a Gardner 6-cylinder diesel engine that produced 102 horsepower. The vehicle had a top speed of 30 miles per hour and a range of 200 miles. The Pioneer was equipped with a winch that could be used to recover disabled vehicles or to tow artillery pieces.
The Pioneer was widely used by the British Army during World War II. The vehicle was used to tow artillery pieces, transport tanks and recover disabled vehicles.
