U-19 was a German Type IIB U-boat that was built for the Imperial German Navy during World War I. She was launched on October 10, 1912, and commissioned into the Imperial German Navy on July 6, 1913. U-19 was a small, coastal submarine that was designed for use in the Baltic Sea. She was armed with two 50-centimeter (20-inch) torpedo tubes and a single 88-millimeter (35-inch) deck gun. U-19 conducted 12 patrols during World War I, sinking 58 ships totaling 99,182 gross register tons (GRT). Her most notable victims included the British steamer Santa Maria, which was sunk on February 25, 1918, with the loss of 13 lives. On September 11, 1918, U-19 was scuttled off the coast of Turkey to prevent her from falling into Allied hands. She was the last German submarine to be scuttled in World War I.
