The Chaser was marketed as a sporty and luxurious alternative to the Toyota Mark II and Cresta. 1998 Chaser was the sixth generation of the model, and it was based on the Toyota X100 platform. It was available with a variety of engines, including a 2.0-liter inline-four, a 2.5-liter inline-five, a 3.0-liter inline-six, and a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six.
